About this product

A gentle oil made to measure small amounts.

Animals need far less CBD than people, so a human-strength oil makes small amounts hard to measure. This bottle is deliberately gentle: the label says 350 mg of CBD isolate in 30 ml, about 12 mg per full dropper and about 0.6 mg per drop. The current batch measured a little over the label; the figure is in Supplement facts and on the lab report.

It's THC-free, bacon flavoured so it goes down on food or a treat, and tested by an ISO 17025 accredited lab like our other oils.

Start low for your pet's weight: the Dose Finder has a dog and cat calculator. Cats are more sensitive than dogs and less studied; check with your vet.

Questions

Before you add it

Is it safe for cats?

Cats are less studied than dogs and more sensitive. Use the cat setting in the Dose Finder, start at the lowest amount, and check with your vet.

How much for a 40 lb dog?

Start at about 2 mg per dose (about 0.5 mg per 10 lb), up to twice a day: 3 to 4 drops at the label's 12 mg per ml. Ask your vet first, especially if your dog takes medication. The Dose Finder works it out from the exact weight.

Can I use the human oil instead?

You can, but the pet oil is weaker per drop, which makes small amounts easier to measure.

How much for my dog or cat, by weight?

Per dose, up to twice a day; once a day for the first week. Mild is where every pet starts, moderate after a week at mild, strong only with your vet. One drop is about 0.6 mg. Dogs: 10 lb, mild 0.5 mg (1 drop), moderate 1 mg (2 drops), strong 2.5 mg (4 drops). 20 lb: 1 mg (2 drops), 2 mg (3 drops), 5 mg (9 drops, about half a dropper). 30 lb: 1.5 mg (3 drops), 3 mg (5 drops), 7.5 mg (13 drops). 40 lb: 2 mg (3 drops), 4 mg (7 drops), 10 mg (17 drops). 50 lb: 2.5 mg (4 drops), 5 mg (9 drops), 13 mg (22 drops, about one dropper). 60 lb: 3 mg (5 drops), 6 mg (10 drops), 15 mg (26 drops). 80 lb: 4 mg (7 drops), 8 mg (14 drops), 20 mg (34 drops). 100 lb: 5 mg (9 drops), 10 mg (17 drops), 25 mg (43 drops). Cats: 5 lb, 0.5 mg (1 drop) at mild and moderate, 1 mg (2 drops) strong. 10 lb: 0.5 mg (1 drop), 1 mg (2 drops), 1.5 mg (3 drops). 15 lb: 1 mg (2 drops), 1.5 mg (3 drops), 2.5 mg (4 drops). 20 lb: 1 mg (2 drops), 2 mg (3 drops), 3 mg (5 drops). The Dose Finder gives the amount for your pet's exact weight. Cats absorb CBD differently and are less studied, so start at mild and watch for drooling, licking or sleepiness.

How often should I give it?

Once a day for the first week, with food or on a treat, so you can see how your pet responds. After that, up to twice a day, morning and evening, if you and your vet think a second dose is useful. Keep the same amount for at least three days before changing it.

What if I give too much?

The amounts in the table are small on purpose, and a dose or two above them is unlikely to cause harm in a healthy dog or cat. The signs most often reported after too much CBD are sleepiness, drooling, wobbliness or loose stool for a few hours. Skip the next dose, offer water, and call your vet if the signs are strong or last more than a day. Keep the bottle where pets cannot reach it.

Is it safe with my pet's medication?

Ask your vet first. CBD is processed by the liver and can change how some medicines are handled, so it matters most for pets on seizure medication, blood thinners, sedatives or anything for the liver. Vets in Canada can discuss CBD even though they cannot prescribe it.

How long does a bottle last?

It depends on the weight and the dose. A 40 lb dog at the moderate amount twice a day (about 7 drops each) uses about 0.7 ml a day, so a 30 ml bottle lasts about six weeks. The same dog at the mild amount once a day uses about 0.15 ml, so the bottle lasts about six months. A 10 lb cat at one drop a day would take well over a year to finish a bottle, so there is no reason to stock up.

Product good, labelling not so much

While I find the product itself is of good quality and my cat definitely appreciates the bacon flavor, the labelling information on the bottle makes dosing difficult to determine if you do not have experience using a CBD product and potentially dangerous to use. There is a recommended "Serving size" of 1mL on the bottle, but it does not reference a dose related to body weight. So, a 4kg cat is supposed to get the same dose as a 40kg dog? Also is a discrepancy with labelling on the bottle for dosing strength. On the front of the bottle it says there is "11.7mg CBD Per Serving". On the back of the bottle it says that one serving is 1mL, but also that "One drop contains 16.67mg of CBD islolate per drop". So which is accurate? Also no markings on the dropper to show dosing--so am I supposed to guess what a mL is? Luckily, I have been using another product with the same concentration, so I know what dose to give. There is dosing information on the Zen Bliss website, but I know a lot of people will likely not go through the hassle of searching out that additional information. So while I like the product, the very poor labelling makes me question the overall quality of the product if Zen Bliss can't even get the labelling information correct. Probably will be looking for a different product that I can trust production quality control and information of.
